Samosir Regency is the result of the division of Toba Samosir Regency in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 36 of 2003 on December 18, 2003 Concerning the Establishment of Samosir and Serdang Bedagai Regencies. The formation of Samosir as a new regency is the first step to start accelerating development towards more prosperous society. In 2019, the population of Samosir Regency was 126,188 people.
